Hey all, this is my first post on this forum! I have been looking around and I saw that some of you have painted your dashboards and whatnot. I would really like to do something like that to my car. I just bought a 2005 Chevy Aveo LT just under a month ago. I can say that I am deffinatly in love with it.
Its the cobalt blue color and I would like to paint my center console that color all the way up to the clock. I went outside and looked to see how I would have to take it out, but i have no clue. Can somebody please give me a step-by-step on how to remove certain things like the center console from the shifter to the clock? and the speedometer bubble thing. Also, if possible the dorr handles.
Thank you for your help in advance, its awesome to see that others are obsessed just like me!
haha, thanks again

The door handles just have a single screw each. Unscrew that, disconnect the mechanism from the back and off you go. The "bubble thing" can be found under the interior LED lighting how-to here (It's just a few screws): aveoclub.proboards26.com/index.cgi?board=diy&action=display&thread=1129043841There should be instructions for the HVAC controls as well in that same thread. (Heating, A/C, etc.) That should give you a start for the centre console. The textured pieces up the sides by the radio just pop off with a small flat-headed screwdriver, same for the piece just below the clock, I believe. The centre console housing the shift boot (rear drink holder etc) itself should be fairly easy, a few screws and it should lift right out. Hope I helped a little.

Thank you for your help. Do I need to worry about snapping any brackets or anything while taking off the textured part?
I think i have changed my mind away from the blue.. do you think white or silver would look nicer up the textured part?

Like he said, just take your time and you should be fine. Try to use less force and a little wiggling as opposed to trying to force it, but they come out pretty easily.
As for color, I've got a black exterior with the standard gray/black interior and I've been thinking about either adding some black trim to the big clumps of gray pieces (doors, etc) or adding silver to the big clumps of black (center console, etc)... maybe both.

Silver will look like you have shiny gray interior, but i think that it will give you a decent contrast with your blue exterior

Everyone on this board is so helpful... and quick. Thank you soooo much for your tips, without them I would never even have the courage to start something like this..
Seeing as how i have the blue exterior paint my first thought was to do blue.. but now im thinking that I would like to do white or silver.. Possibly something else that will POP! You know? Im open to any suggestions. I will take pictures of my progress for you all.
Thanks again -jay

well with my car once I get my suspension/wheels setup, I will probably be spraying everything that is grey and changing it to black, then accent pieces with red and silver

Also, how much am i looking at to spend for replacement parts if its reallllly bad? na warranty will still be good even if you paint (theres alot you can do with out voiding warranty including performance wise) ...as for replacements, dont know since you would have to get that from a dealer but I think it would be cheaper to use paint thinner to take the paint off and then just spray plain black if you mess up then buying a new center consol
