so there i was at a stoplight when a Metro pulls up besides me. so naturally i look over and rev my engine, he revved his and the light turns green. we both gun it, unfortunately we were on post and the MPs know me pretty well (my car also) so i got to 30MPH and braked down to 25MPH and he passed me.
but up until that point i was winning ;D

I'd like to take the time to point out that the metro is available in US with a 1l (ONE LITER) L3 engine, which puts out 55hp. Also available was the 1.3l L4 which put out 70-80hp... the aveo should, on all accounts, destroy this car.

I've been testing out the performance of a couple different cars against my Aveo. Some friends of mine got together where we ran against each other on a 1/8th mile track. I had the chance to go up against two neons (one mtx, the other atx), a metro, a 2k5 aveo sedan, and a 89 S-10 (v6, 4 speed). The MTX neon destroyed me, I got him in the 60ft though. The ATX neon finished a little less than 3/10th's of a second faster than me. The metro was no challenge at all, completely and totally destroyed. We do have to remember that the metros are getting rougly 15 to 20mpg more than us though. The other Aveo was a surprise actually. Both his car and mine are relatively the exact same car. Both have a little over 2,000 miles on them, and both are atx. Craziest thing is that I nailed him by at least a second on 4 runs. I thought that was odd, we even switched cars and he still nailed me driving my own car, and I in his. I guess the 4 door version weighs a little more or something. The S-10 blew everybodys doors off. I stood no chance against it. It was interesting to run all those cars though, and see where each ranked compared to the others. The aveo's finished right below the neons, the s10 smoked everything, and the metro was left all by itself at the bottom.

thats slow when an s10 beats you, because i own a 96 bravada with a 4.3(3.42s for gearing) and it doesnt feel that fast. now my moms 97 suburban with the 350 in it can kick some serious ass.

i've raced plenty of times and i've come to the conclusion that with our cars (those of us who have the 5 door) can beat plenty of makes of cars that are faster than ours. all you need to do is pick the time that you race. between 7am and 930am or between 230pm and 6pm..... rush hour!!!! the size of our car is great for high volume traffic racing especiaslly on highways.

Funny thing with me, had 2 races in the same night. I was on my way home from work and this dic*head was tailgating me on an open high way. so when he finaly pulled up next to me we both droped'em from a rolling 60mph to 85mph, in a 80's dodge shadow, and beat me to my exit. (Hung head in shame. A Shadow?). Then when I was halfway home this white 96'ish camaro v6 got behind me and he's on my A$$ in the straights, but I literally toasted him in the turns, went through the 90 degree "S" bend at 35mph, then just let out he was 8-10 car lenghts behind out of every turn.

I used to own a shadow. they are not weak cars. Mine had a 2.5L with a 5 speed. that thing would move. They also had a turbo version.
On the guy with the neons beating you. do you have a auto. because I never fear neons, unless it a srt-4

Yeah, I have an auto. I didn't like the stick when I test drove another aveo just like what I have now but it was a stick. It felt spongy, not too responsive, and not to mention the size of the shifter made it look like it came off a Mack truck.
The S-10 had a 4 speed instead of the 5, and was geared particularly low. In a quarter mile I probably would have taken him due to his top end limit of about 100mph, in the eighth mile he had everyone due to the fact that he would reach the top end rather quickly. When it hit 4th though and got near 100mph that truck was a dog, there was nothing left there not matter how hard you pushed it.
Neons are actually pretty tough to beat depending on what you're up against. A stock atx neon is pretty easy to destroy. Go up against the ACR, SRT-4's, or manuals that have had a 2.4L swap and you're better off not betting pinks.
