5 minutes I disagree, boil for 20 min+ then you have to cut the rubber sleeve off the plastic knob, then bash the knob off. If you did this mod in 5 minutes you are the man....This is for the standard tranny. Then the fun begins on devising a system for the lockout to reverse . 2 ways for that..........

you have to slide the boot up, and push the holding pin out to remove the whole shifter. NO TOOLS NEEDED.... As for the Knob like I said boil, then cut rubber off the knob then beat the knob off. THIS is not a mod for a first timer. not wanting to sound mean but dont try this if you cant figure out getting the shifter off. And a neon is pretty much foreign in design, I think it is a hyudai designed drive train.

Yeah neon has all mitsu drivetrain. And as for the knob i'm sure that if you boiled it for a while then put it in a vice and twisted it like a mother f*$ker it prolly wouldn't be that hard to remove. I haven't tried getting the knob off but getting the shifter out took me less than 5 mins. I don't see what's all that hard about it!?

;D sweet i was right about the tranny. the only difference in the eclipe tranny and neon tranny is that the neon has a better final drive

Are you talking about the metal clip that hold the whole shifter in at the bottom? If that's what you're talking about, all you have to do is pull the clip off sideways (left i think) at the top where it wraps around the metal part of the shift lever, and then pull the bottom (pin) part out towards you. The whole lever should come out easily after.
