we got alot of snow on the weekend here in Hamilton, i was sitting home looking at car videos on streetfire.net, then i can across this video, and could not resist. <IFRAME SRC="http://videos.streetfire.net/iPlayer.aspx?fileid=27773437-6D71-4E30-8A21-EF61AE9AAA1D" WIDTH="470" HEIGHT="375" FRAMEBORDER="0" MARGINWIDTH="0" SCROLLING="no"></IFRAME> so i went to the Hamilton Cemetery (if you want to see the how the twisty road looks like go to www.google.ca/lochp?hl=en&tab=wl&q= and search for "777 york blvd Hamilton, ON" the first time its was bad, i went to turn but the cars was still going forward, pulled the band brake and spend out, 15 min later i got used to the car, o ya i had my stock alll season tires on (no traction). 3 hours of solid fun. the aveo is not nearly as good of a car like the WRX, and im not as nearly as good of a driver like that old dude. do you guys go crazy on the snow?

Ah, snow driving! My favorite!
Here's some tips: Get the car as light as you possibly can. Ditch the rear seats, spare, anything else you can.
The largest width tire you possibly want for a road completely covered in snow is 185. 175 is ideal, but not entirely practical for a daily driver. An all season is acceptable, however snow tires are great, too.
Now since the aveo is FF, you don't want to enter the corner with the throttle on. You'll never be able to enter the corner as fast as a RWD or AWD car, so don't even bother trying. You'll also have nowhere near the amount of controllability as an AWD car, so we're going to be "tossing" the car around the corner, rather than riding the drift all the way through.
The technique we're going to be using is called trail braking, but since we don't have any power to the rear wheels, we need to adjust it a bit. Trail braking is a common rally technique used to break the traction to the rear wheels, allowing the car to slide with little disruption.
Basically you brake all the way into the corner, instead of doing all your braking before hand, allowing you to enter the corner faster, and keeping the weight on the front wheels. You slowly let off the brakes and get onto the throttle at about the apex, which in a RWD or AWD car, would often break rear traction. But again, since we're using a FWD car, we need to adjust the technique.
As you approach the corner, brake far in advance... being careful not to lock the brakes. You want to enter at a comfortable speed. Just as you're about to enter, steer hard into the corner and start letting off the brakes. Before the apex, with the brakes still on, you want to give a good yank on the handbrake. At this point you should be totally off the brakes. The car will start to spin and slide. Counter steer and apply the throttle as needed to keep the car pointed in the correct direction.
It's hard to describe how to balance the car once you've started sliding, as it really depends on the weight of the car, and how slippery the surface is. I recommend doing this in an open parking lot until you get to know your car. Snow banks look harmless... but they really aren't.

wow thats a complicated explanation, i just ... drive, pull handbrake, and watch as car does 180-360 in the snow lol. this thing kicks ass for this kind of fun because its so light, my friends 2 door sunfire couldnt even do a 90 degree turn lol, whilst a buddy of mine who never drove in his life does a 180 with his first try on my swift.

its not as fun to do 180s and 360s on a parking lot, its fun to drive on a twisty roads and controll the drift.
