The other night I was on delivery at my work and I pulled up next to a 5 door aveo at a stop light and you know what happened after that....of course...we went for it. I thought my aveo was somewhat the kicker but this guy just slaughtered me, off the line and in acceleration. I could tell that his exhaust and intake were stock too so....CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT I DID WRONG? lol

Theres many mods a person can do without changing the sound of a car. He could have possibly lightened his car, or if he had a manual...good shifting. Theres an endless amount of possiblilities. I just think he was manual and he knew how to shift good.

I have to totally agree with him on this. I have come across a couple aveos at stop lights and completely destroyed them.
While a few you could tell had exhaust and intake mods, other's were bone stock.
I drive a bone stock US 1.6l 5dr 5spd (no a/c, so there might've been a weight difference), and my acceleration appears to be more around 0-60mph in 8seconds, rather than the 10 second spec... really odd.
I can also destroy my friend's '03 civic EX (intake only) by a car length up until 50mph (when hp takes the lead, as apposed to torque)... then he flies by.
This is all straight-line acceleration, in the snow I dominate my friend's EX... along with dry/wet twisty roads.
"Howtf do you do that? The car looked like it was going to roll"
If only I had some roll bars

Run you Aveo against a 5spd 89 Civic Dx or Si with someone who actually knows how to drive the civic and I guarantee the aveo will lose and badly. I tried that with my girlfriend's. My buddy had an 89 Dx. It did beat his Tercel though.

I'm sure if I were to go head to head with a civic hatch with experienced driver, I'd get beat. edit: I still stand by the snow thing, but that's not the car... snow is just my forte. I'll put my title down on that one! <3 snow

My car has been as high as 200-203 km/h with my 14''s on. With my eighteens it will barely do 160. But these cars are pretty good I would say. Ive been beat alot and I have one alot of races but my very best match beleive it or not was a 1992 cheverolet corsica. It had no signs of anything being done to it at all, not even nice tires. We were going down highway 14 and he was ahead of me and I was already doing 140 and was barely catching up to him so I was like write on a pace car until he started creating a distance and thats when I thought what the hell lets see what the corsica had and after about 2 minutes of holding her out my needle was hovering 200km/h and I was finally starting to come on to him I couldn't beleive either of our cars would do that never mind his. it was probably the most suprising race ive ever been a part of. Im sorry I know we shouldn't race.

I can honestly say that his aveo was an automatic due to the fact that there was no sign at all of shifting between gears... and he was at stock height. He may have had like an intake sensor mod or something. But I have come to the conclusion that it might be that I had my 2000 watts of stereo blaring at the time and have later noticed that having it up hinders my acceleration quite a bit. (I didnt know then) However I was smart when I took on a 95 or so Jetta that was completely riced out and held up with him head to head. I backed off when I had to turn but like I said I was giving him a run for his money up until about 90 mph or so. By the way My car is a bare bones aveo 5speed that I have done a few things to...you can check it out at... www.cardomain.com/memberpage/550466

Yes it will become slightly slower at high speeds because you will have bigger tires (specially if you go beyong 16") at 16" you shouldn't loose any power at all but higher then that the wheel and tire is bigger diameter so it takes more power in top end to propel the car foward thats why you loose top speed with bigger wheels

Plus be going faster than the speedometer indicates, wheel diameter is increased speedometer error goes up.

With 17" wheels and 205/40-17 tires when you go 100km/h you will actually be travelling at about 103.2km/h (that doubles at 200km/h etc etc)
For MPH at 60 you will be going about 61.9mph with 17" wheels and the same tires
So as you can see its not that big of a difference but i would not recommend going higher then 17". At 16" you speedometer will not change.

i want to get 17X7.5 rimz and some low profile tires, but is it only the top speed will suffer or acceleration too?

Im not sure to what im about to say but i heard once that you will have more top end with bigger rims as for acceleration i think it should stay pretty much the same

UMMM the smaller the diameter the rim and tire the faster it spins at a set speed. so If you but bigger wheels on it will make less revolutions at the same set speed, so your speedo is gonna read slower. How do I know? 1st simple geometry, 2nd I hav 16" wheels on my car, it reads 5 mph faster than what I'm going
