I put 4 ice radials(blizzaks) on everything, never have trouble in snow/ice. Kinda take the fun out of winter though... I had an A2 jetta way back when. Put 2 studded ice tires on the front drive wheels... this was great fun... rear end went nuts, but still in complete control... I'm sure the stress put on the chassis was somewhat rediculous, though...

Other things to use: Rectangular manhole covers (not really manholes, but the little metal covers over underground pipes/valves/etc), or the plastic crates used for soda deliveries. Drive onto the covers, or drop your tires into the crates and slide away. edit: DON'T FORGET TO LOCK THE EBRAKE!

Nokian Hakkapalitta Q's are the best non studded winter tires i've ever owned out of all the top rated tires and not only that but the have an excellent unconditional warranty to go along with these near phenomenal tires. See yah in the snow!!! The car is now excellent and very predictable in winter conditions.

Well I retract my title. This winter I put the factory tires and rims back on. and the car is still lowered. Man my Aveo can cut throught the snow. Last year I had my rims with the 16's and the car was still stock height. I was getting through places trucks couldn't get through.

Not always... uphill is a totally different story. Recently behind a 2wd pickup... he's fishtailing all over the place @ 20mph... I'm cruising along right behind him no problems... allbeit he's RWD and probably forgot to weigh down the bed... but still, they drive around in the snow like they own the place.
