Well here in Cincinnati we're getting pounded right now, so far 7" of snow, they are calling for 10 to 16"'s Well had to go to my mom's to shovel the drive way. Boy I got stuck alot, the aveo is so light, I just spin tires even in 3rd gear.

We've had one snow so far and my Aveo sedan did great. 'Course, I knew the oem Kumho 722's were crap so had already replaced them with Kumho ECSTA HP4 716's. (These were highly rated for rain and snow....and they delivered! No hydro-planing. Excellent in slushy snow. Good on packed snow.) So although the car IS light, the right tires can make all the difference. Perhaps it aint the Aveo that sucks in snow.....maybe it's just your tires.

I have 16" AEM rims with Eagle gt+4's or someting like that. There expensive like 160 a tire. but they are crap in the snow.

I live up in the Ottawa Valley and we have been covered in snow for the passed 2 months.
I haven't had any problems yet with the car in the snow with the stock tires, in fact I have had a bit of fun with it. If you have the automatic you can use the Hold feature, I have found that it will get you out of some slippery spots.

As with all lightweight 2wd cars, you're bound to get stuck in the snow, though I'd much prefer getting stuck than sliding uncontrollably all over the highway... my 04 confidently took ice with the stock kuhmos at highway speeds... haven't gotten much chance to get it in snow, other than in a parking lot... where it handled similar to a festiva or aspire, though it's limits were nowhere near as high.
I surely miss the days of passing blazers, in the snow, uphill in my old aspire...

AVEOS do suck in the snow but the ebrake is lots of fun with such a short wheel base... it makes cornering that much more fun ;D

I have to replace my front tires at 20,000 miles- down to the wear bar...I'm going to discount tire and buy 4 new ones, and have them siped while I'm there- I've heard this improves things a bit.

I put 4 ice radials(blizzaks) on everything, never have trouble in snow/ice. Kinda take the fun out of winter though...
