so I bought my Aveo and I started to use the E-brake cuz it's a 5 speed. And it locked up the rear pass wheel. So i took it to midas and got them to take the shoes off for me as I had to drive 350km back home. I have to put new shoes on so I am going to do all of them. I think the drum should be ok. If not where is a good place to buy a drum for this car? I know GM wants like $350 for 1. . . . .wow. Ebay has them but the guy at GM said there are 3 different type of suspension on these cars? All teh locals auto outlets don't list them . .. .. .Any advice in case i need a new drum? Do i have to pay $350 for one?

Do you have junk yards in the area? Also, I know that here in Seattle area there are quite a few people parting out their Aveos so that would be even cheaper way to go. And as far as suspension goes - I don't know what they're talking about when they say 3 different types of suspension. I know that the springs and the struts/shocks are the same on all 04-08 Aveo hatchbacks (and possibly all sedans too) and from what I understand the rear end is the same on all 09-10's... So who is telling you that you have three different types of suspension? And how is that related to your break drums?

It's some guy from GM. Yeah if I need drums I'll have to go the second hand route for sure. I thought they were all the same. He wanted my VIN number and everything to know what ones i need? SO WEIRD!!!
So you think I can get any off any other car and be good to go? Thats All I needed to know. Man Am I ever glad I found this site.

I would say so... take your old one off when you go buy a new one - that way you know for sure. And they were trying to charge me 314$ for a spoiler for an 06 aveo, and I just bought one for the 09 (new body style) but the rear end is identical.... So don't pay attention to the GM guys... ask around. But be careful, make sure it matches when you actually buy it.

Awesome. Glad to hear the drum was fine. Who did you have it done by? And why not DIY? That's the whole beauty of it. The only two things that I haven't done on my car myself are the exhaust welding because I've never done it and I don't have a machine to do it and the actual painting. Disassembly and assembly, masking it off... sanding... putting the body kit on, that's what makes you appreciate your car!
