Hi everyone I am wondering if anyone else is having low mpg pro blems. I havae a 2008 aveo that started out at 30mpg and has drropped to 28 mpg. The car is an automatic Iuse 0/30 mobile1 and have a k&n air filter. The dealer says it still has to breakin but the car allready has 14k miles on it. Anyone with suggestions that will get me better mileage I am looking forward to hearing them.

I have never gotten more than 28mpg on my 08 5-speed whenever I measure it myself. I don't have any engine mods either. I've noticed though that little engine takes a lot of work to keep it at high speeds on the freeway, do you drive a lot on the freeway?

My Swift is getting poor gas mileage in the winter, probably as low as 21mpg. I do have to let it idle to warm up for about 5-10 min. I notice when I start it cold I smell raw gas coming out of the tailpipe like it is running too rich.
It is mostly highway driving with very little town driving. In the summer I get around 28mpg. I have about 15000kms on it.

Hmm... I just measured my mixed city/highway driving (city for about 3/4 of the tank) and I was at around 25.4 mpg. And that's with me revving it up sometimes and idling a bit in this time of year. My all city driving has been as low as 20-21 mpg right after I installed the exhaust (revved it up every chance I got and it reflected on fuel economy) and on all highway driving (65 mph average) its well over 30, around 35 or so. One thing that you should keep in mind too is your driving style.

The highest I have had is 32, since buying it new in Jan. 08 w/ 6 miles on it, I average around 26 for the past two years and have 29k.

jsmi1251, it could be also that it's automatic... according to www.fueleconomy.gov Side-By-Side comparison of an 08 Aveo5 automatic and 08 Aveo5 manual the latter gets better gas mileage according to everyday drivers like me and you... Automatic is only supposed to get 32 at most (according to the sticker) while manual is supposed to get 34 (according to some people they have higher mpg's).... but like I said... a lot of it depends on your driving style... my dad drives an 08 Manual Transmission Aveo5 and he gets around 28 in city... while I get around 20 on average in city in my 06 Aveo 5 hatch... I'm a lot more aggressive driver than he is, so for me that's a good number. I know I'm capable of getting around 30 mpg in city if I go back to the same style of driving as I had in the stock aveo, but it's actually pretty hard (for me) with the exhaust, intake, and all other fun things I did to it...

actually just compared my car to both 08 aveo5 manual and automatic... on paper I'm supposed to get the same mpg as automatic 08 aveo5. They said they improved mpg in 08 model... don't know about that... It's pretty much the same engine...

My 2011 Aveo5 gets 33 mpg running 70 mph on cruise control. Running a single stainless steel round 2.5" Magnaflow in place of the resonator with straight pipe back, a K&N, and Mobile 1 0-30w.
The Magnaflow/K&N combination completely changes the car's performance and has a nice mellow sound after 1000 miles. The first mile after the modifications it barely ran until the computer caught up then nothing but fun after that.
