Who cares, the stage IV kalos won't come to america... How can you be so sure? It's still a normally aspirated motor - and it's the 1.4L to boot! If they were able to squeeze another 40HP out of the 1.4L, imagine what the same modifications would yield in our 1.6L plants. - Siggy

"For the 1.6 you need to boost it, or get some head work done (port and polish, oversized valves, cams), with a header and a new intake manifold.and bigger TB also a standalone or pippyback that can control timing. ther you should be able to get this engine into the 140 - 150 Hp range."
Thank you, exactly what I have been saying since I joined this forum. The head needs extensive machining and work done to it, before you go throwing bolt on's on the car to make any real power gains.

it could really double just like that? even with the 1.4L..... i mean if its possible to double that what the heck do we have to do to double our horse power Exactly what I just described. Most people start with replacing the exhaust or upgrading the computer. Since there are no "hot" chips or mandrel bent catback systems on the market yet, you would need to find a "reprogrammer" familiar with Daewoo IFE systems and an exhaust shop that has a mandrel bender. By simply "uncorking" the stock exhaust with the addition of a custom 2.5" mandrel bent system and hi-flow muffler, you could easily net another 20-30HP. If you want to play with the top end, remove the cylinder head and find a good high performance machine shop. Depending on how deep your pockets are, they could spend days porting and polishing the intake and exhaust ports, etc. To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket intake and exhaust manifolds but the same shop could address those pieces as well. All of this could easily add 60+ HP. If any of this sounds scary, you can always drive into a full service performance shop like Top End Performance ( www.racetep.com) and say "go to work boys". These type of places are in every state and they specialize in safely getting the maximum performance out of any car. They can even fabricate their own parts. It's expensive but I would not be surprised if a reputable shop would find a way of getting 300+ horsepower out of the 1.6L - and they would even guarantee their numbers by dyno testing. - Siggy I think you need to revise your numbers a little there mister thermodynamist. You have seen "countless" dynos of cars getting 30-40hp out of an exhaust. Why don't you go ahead and post one up from a 4cyl non turbo car that gets "30HP". With a turbo car this might be possible because of the dramaticly improved boost response which can actually even cause the boost to spike a few extra psi and show a 30-40hp gain in lower RPM spots. As for porting and polishing, you can do all you want with a 6500 RPM red line, you will not see an additional 60hp out of this engine, even with porting, polishing, larger intake runners, larger throttle body, light flywheel, tight ecu tuning, etc... I'm checking with my contacts at Chevrolet UK regarding what modifications were made to the STAGE IV 1.4L motor in the new Kalos WRT.
I also expressed my curiousity as to why the 1.6L motor is no longer available in Great Britain. In 2003, you could order a Kalos with the 1.6L and it's still available in the Lanos model. Strange.

We also never got: Ford: rs2000, escort RS, focus RS. Subaru: legacy b4, 2.0t impreza. Mitsubishi: 2.0t evo... list goes on. FIA regulations say that cars entered for rally must have a certain amount of cars produced for public sale, though the cars don't have to be sold in america (usually euro or japan only, depending on the manufacturer and marketability). So if the reason they're homogolating the kalos is for rally... we probably won't get them.

Actually I was responding to your skepticism about the factory's claim of 140HP from the 1.4L. It would be foolish to doubt this statement. The Stage IV WRT has 140HP and that's mighty impressive for a normally aspirated motor. My guess is that the same modifications to the 1.6L would yield around 170HP. Not bad.
As for the WRT making it over here, it's pretty doubtful. However, if there is anyone on this forum who will find out first - it'll be me. As soon as my guys at Chevrolet UK hear back from their engineering development center, I will know exactly what modifications the Stage IV motor received. Stay tuned.

would they be allowed to bore it out to a 1.6L?

Why would they bore out the 1.4L? If they wanted to offer a WRT with a 1.6L, they would simply perform the same modifications on the 1.6L block.
Exactly what those modifications entail, I don't know - but I will soon.

Meanwhile...The left Taillight has that red section in it for the "Rear Fog Lamp" that has to be red tinted. Most European countries require it for nighttime traveling when there are inclement weather conditions.
Check out the single white reverse light on Mini Coopers, in Europe they are red not white.

too bad delta was too much of a pain in the @ss, i would have liked to known what some the motor work that was done on that car.....i think some nice power could be made with one of the bigger bore/ higher compression pistons sets, regrinded cams, header, full exhaust, and CAI....id really like to see that
