I took my aveo in 2day for a carwash and the 1st oil change. I shifted into park on a little bit of a downhill and the stupid shift lock activated itself. I inserted the key into the shift lock, put the car in neutral, removed the key from the hole, started the car, and shifted into drive. After that, the car kept locking into shift every time I parked it!!! The dealer spent an hour trying to figure it out, and changed my oil. He ordered a Selenoid which controls the shift lock, that he thinks needs to be replaced (it will be delivered in 3 days). But when I got the car back, it was able to shift into drive without any problems... I am so confused... but warning you all about the shift lock is important, plus... it took me awhile to figure out that the key is used to disable the shift lock!!! This was the first time I got angry with my Aveo, and hopefully it doesn't happen again.

UPDATE: The Selanoid was delivered to the dealer... I am going to get it installed on monday. The service guy tells me that even though the problem has dissipated, I should replace the part.

I would highly suggest going with a 5 speed stick with an Aveo for those thinking of getting one! What a freaken difference it makes! Yes, I hope that was just an isolated incident... That sucks!
