Constant upselling. I want to slap the OJ out of some of the employees at these stores. I do a bit of research, find something in the price range I want to spend and they try and sell you something that costs twice as much.

Ryan I always ask what you want and what you are willing to pay then I give you the best bang for your buck. Most places upsell you because the employees are working on commission.

TOO EXPENSIVE!!! There is a place in El Paso called Audio Express. I went there to see how much a stereo would cost for an old 95 Silverado I used to have before the Aveo. It was the DEH-P47DH, the one that fits in the GM openings. It would cost more than 400, because they needed the adapters, the dash kits, and other bullorange juice. I looked it up on Crutchfield.com and it was only 200 for the deck, and all the other stuff came free.
They will quote you too much just to get your money. I will never ever go there again. That is why I buy my car audio stuff from Crutchfield. It has never failed me and there is no better job than a job you do yourself.

I'll tell you what I hate about car audio stores, well this only happened at one that i went to today and that is pushy salesmen. This will probably be a long post and will mostly be venting so dont really worry about reading it at all. I went into find out prices on decks and to find out whether or not I need a GM or Daewoo adapter(since I cant get a straight answer out of searching on this forum). So I went to a store where my brother bought a deck several years ago and speak with this guy who looks to be in maybe his 50s. So he tells me that i'll findout whether its GM or Daewoo when I buy the deck, I told him that I dont want to buy it then find out he doesnt have what I need. To which he responds that he might have a daewoo adapter so I dont neeed to worry so I should just buy a deck at that very moment. So i then say I wasnt sure what deck I want, preferably something with USB. then then says they range from 140 and up but I should get anything cheaper that 180(this seems to be a magic number for quality in decks and the same price as one on the wall). He then tells me that if i'mplanning on buying an the internet I shouldnt since it most likely would be defective and then I'd have to mail it back. I explained that I'm weary of online purchases(which I am, but maybe I should change, since mailing would be less of a pain than dealing with this guy). He then said it's worth it to spend more money so then I dont have a hassle if the deck breaks soon and then I'd get my parents in to get mad at him(way to talk down to a potential customer). He then goes on saying that I should buy that stereo at that very moment or else he wont let me leave, I told him i dont have enough to buy today(which I dont), he then tells me to put a down payment. I tell him all i have if a 5 and I need gas(really I had a 20, and over half a tank). He then says what stopping me now, to which I responded that I still need a definate answer as to what adaptor I need, he again tells me he'll tell me when I buy it. He also asked why would I want a cheaper deck towhich I told him I'm currently in college and dont have alot of disposable income. He then goes on saying that that stuff doesnt matter as long as you have a good sounding stereo saying "you only live once, why not have a good sounding stereo?", well maybe there are more important things in my life than audio equipment.
Now within the first 2 minutes of talking to the guy he showed me a deck cheaper than all others I have seen shopping around and I was really considering buying after talking about it with my buddies to see what they thought (One of my buddies says its a pretty good deal). But then the guy kept going on and was a total jerk. I am certain that were that guy not such a jerk I would be in there in about weekand a half cash in hand(since I have classes and work and today was a bit of a breather). But now I think I may go to another store I went to a few weeks ago where the prices where a little bit higher but the sales woman was really nice, in talking to her I learned alot about car audio, since I'm new to this stuff.
