Okay, this may sound like a pretty stupid question. But would making a fiberglass sub enclosure add more or less weight than a typical MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) sub box?
Yes, I know, the jokes are on me today.

From what I understand, if you can't make a fiberglass only box because the pressure would shatter it. That is what I have been told. At one point i wanted to build a pimp @$$ rockford fosgate custom box out of fiberglass. I was told that it would have to be made out of wood first then padding then fiberglass.

Well actually you can make a 98% fiberglass enclosure if you use mdf rings for your subs with adequate support via dowel rods.

Yes, I know, the jokes are on me today. Well actually as far as the weight goes it depends on what is being constructed(size/shape) and purpose, so I will answer your question with it depends...

Woo, it depends, very informative!! In all seriousness though, I appreciate the responses. The fiberglass enclosure I want to make would be roughly the same size as the one I have now. The only difference would be that I want to add a little onto the sides to mount a pair of 6x9's and an amp on the top or front.
I'm just really new to fiberglass and wanted to make sure I wasn't adding a bunch of weight to the back.

The reason, I say that it depends is because/size and shape can make a difference...

Give me the dimensions of what you have in mind and I might be able to help you out, with some pointers

I'll make up some simple schematics tonight on PSP and I'll let ya know. By the way, I know ya were just tryin to help. I didn't mean anything by saying that it wasn't informative.

NO problemo, it is what it is, I built a temporary IB Box myself, I think I will cover in vinyl. I will do a fiberglass one once my money gets straight again

Okay, so apparently my drawing skills are not what they used to be. But, the rough dimensions will be l x w x h (in inches) 13x30x11 for the subs. I haven't finished a design, so let's just go with that for now.

Well... I'm thinking of mounting the subs horizontally and extending the box up a little to mount the 6x9's slightly sunk into the box on each side and the amp flush-mounted in between them on top. It's an... Infinity 311A.
