Hello all, I'm new here and this is my first post. I have a new 2006 aveo 5 door SVM in icelandic blue.
Its awesome and so far I love it.
One thing though....my stereo seems to lack treble and I wondered if this is how all the base stereo's sound or if somethings amis in my system.
I play mp3's via an fm transmitter I bought at walmart for 30 bucks. they sound even more muted though.
Will new speakers with built in tweeters help?
Are my speakers blown?
Any suggestions appreciated, Thanks!

my 07 is the same way. I am trying to decide what speakers to go with because the plain am/fm unit sounds horrible. I just wish I knew what size of speakers are in the 07's... 06 sedan takes 4"s and 6.5"s but the 07 isnt listed on crutchfield to know for sure if they're the same(I do assume they are though)

I put 6.5 in the front. Just junk the little adapter that the 4" fit into. Mine's a 06. Sounds much better with some Alpines in there.

Cool thanks.
Do the alpines have tweeters built in?
Do the stock speakers have tweeters?

1st of all, get rid of that horrible stock radio, thats the first problem, then your 2nd problem is the stock speakers, and the way stupid GM made them all small. lol i had to put my stock radio back in because my DUAL radio burned out stupid radio, i knew i shouldve gotten the warranty

well, I dont want to rip into my dash just yet.
Cant really afford the stereo I'dlike either, I thought maybe a speaker upgrade would work with my buget and help the dull sound.
Right now this stereo is far better than what I had in my old '78 ride. So no need change it out for a few years.

I agree first step is new head unit.. very easy to do. My car came wiht the base stereo, no CD player even, just AM/FM.. I put in a new head unit, and was really amazed at what the stock speakers sounded like with a proper head unit and some EQ... now I put in my sub, and still using the factory speakers, and really sounds good. Eventually I will replace them (they will probably blow lol)...

Definately replace the speakers. I am running Pioneers all the way around, and I even had those in with the stock MP3 player. They sounded ok, but once I replaced the head unit with the Pioneer 5800, it was better than what I imagined!! Definately get the stock stereo system.

I think then I'll start with the speakers. The front 2 will be first. As I've read (and thanks everybody) I can fit a bigger speaker than stock up front? Is there something with a built in tweeter that will fit?

i would recommend you put in a head unit first, trust me, your stock speakers will sound WAY better with a good quality head unit in there. its VERY simple to install, i did my first aveo head unit install before any of the stores around where i lived had the install kit. it took less then 20 minutes to install and maybe 3 hours of wiring, (i'm mostly colorblind so thats the main reason lol) now with and install kit it can be done in no time at all, just plug and play.
once you have the good head unit you can go from there as far as speakers but putting new ones in now wont help, it might even lower your volume, the stock head unit doesnt have enough power to drive higher power speakers so it will sound bad.

Well as I said better speakers to sound better than stock. I also agree that a new head unit will sound even better. It is just a matter of money. If you have the money for both do it. If money is a problem speakers WILL helpl
