you can't put a remote start in a manual tranny car because you have to press in to clutch to start the motor. The engine will not start without the clutch pressed. Unless you want to bypass the clutch switch and leave your car in neutrel. And you better hope it is in neutrel, or its going down the street when you start it. You can put a remote start on a auto tranny car.

You can put remote starters in standards, And yes you have to leave the car in neutral. My wife has a sx2.0 5-speed with a remote, and I will be getting one this week for christmas, it is only getting to be twenty BELOW by sunday so I dont think a few thousand Albertans with standard remote starters can be wrong. The only hitch is you will pay around 50-100$ more for a standard tranny install. or you can do it yourself.

What kind are you putting in? Most that I have seen have been for use with alarm systems/door lock system, and I'm not sure I want to do all that...

I work for an electronics store in Nova Scotia, and we install car starters in both automatic and standard transmission vehicles. Almost all good manufacturers of remote starters have a seperate line for standards, which usually requires you to leave the car in neutral with the e-brake on, and when you take your key out, the vehicle will remain running until after the last door is closed, then shut off automatically. That way, the car cannot be in gear since it was running when you got out.
I actually have one in my 04 Aveo5 LS 5sp. The only other thing that can make it more interesting, is that in the 04 LS and the 05 LT models, they have a transponder chip in your ignition key. You will need a bypass module for that, but any reputable shop can order or stock those. Also all Aveos with keyless entry have to have the alarm disarmed before the remote start. Again, any good shop knows this, and it's no biggie.
I'd recommend the Autostart or UltraStart brand of starters, they both work very well with great range. Ultrastart are easier to use on 5spds though.
