need some help and input

well as some of you know I have a running eclipse gs with front end damage(radiator, headlights, bumper cover, fenders, hood) and i dont want it because its nothing special to me. So I was working on the aveo yesterday and changing the oil and just looking things over and I really want to build a car like the clean and pro civics i see but i dont want to be a follow, I want to apply that stuff to the aveo. This would most likey need hardcore work that I dont want to do on daily driver aveo. Well my dad use basically all the junkyards around here for the bodyshop and I want to see if i can get one to trade me a junkyard aveo hatch 5spd (pre electronic throttle cable bs) for the eclipse gs. Well before I can get my dad to look around for a junkyard with one, I have to convince him that I can make an aveo fast because I already briefly ran it by him and he said y not just build a car that u can make fast. I told him i want a hatchback and he told me y not a civic. Then i told him i dont want to build a civic, i want to build the aveo. then he asked me how i was going to make an aveo fast when there are no parts. well here is where i need help, i need to come up with a bunch of modification i can do to make the aveo perform better and faster. I know alot of the engine work might have to be custom but for most of the build I can use parts that are universal or can be used universally.

here is what I have so far:
what made hondas popular- bigger displacement engines into lightweight econoride bodies. aveo = econorider lightweight body so that part of the formula, the other bigger engine...well let see we have the u20sed which can make good power with little simple mods so I think we have a match that is similar to what honda has...not exactly the same seeing as honda has more tech advanced engines but gotta work with what you got. plus we can finally put to rest the question if the swap will fit and work.
other parts:
-fluidyne radiator for a civic (possibly half size to make room)
-FAL slim fans (also make room)
-engine damper (will reduce some of the stress from the bigger engine)
-other simple things like CAI, headers, and full exhaust are things that can be custom made and add to the power

thats all i have for now, so if you can add something please do.

part of the reason i want the spare aveo to work with is i dont have to ruin my one i am still paying for plus my ride wont have to be off the road if i am doing the swap or other stuff that takes longer than a day and I dont have to worry about braking warranty with the possibility of going turbo. So i need the parts and info to back up making an aveo fast and persuading my dad

the C20LET out of the Sunbird GT it's turbo, and should drop right in the Aveo.

Don't knock the 8valves! My ABA jetta flies up hills that the aveo can't even maintain speed on

I had an '88 Olds Calais, it was a special edition GMO Quad 4, for Chicago, had a 4 cylider with dohc and it FLEW!!!

im not into sohc...so I am really looking for universal parts or parts that can be made universal that increase performance

I thought you were going turbo?

DOHC is definitely the better way to go for turbo. For huge amounts of boost it's all about getting the exhaust valves to stay open as long as possible with a small amount of intake overlap to help push the exhaust out.

i do want to go turbo but if there is a chance I can get another aveo hatch to do the work on, it would be a crap load easier. Plus i really want to build a car and some of the stuff i want to do I know i wont be aloud to do to with the red aveo. So if i can get an extra aveo body to work with I can experiment more, but if i cant then i will just go on turboing my red one. but i personally feel that me getting a second aveo would benefit the aveo community more, especially since there are other people going to go turbo on the 1.6L now and with a second car I will have a better chance to figure out a 2.0L swap, which i hope could swing some attention the aveos way.

yeah I would just get a 2L on ebay or a local JY and do the swap

just my 2 cents, I am really glad to see that you are so enthusiast about making the aveo goes fast, but if you are going for a second week-end car for fun why not starting with something already more powerful than an aveo and keep your pretty aveo for the daily drive, that what I would do.
after all starting with a 4cyl of 100hp or a 200hp v6 I believe the choice is easy after all the mod that will add 10hp to the 4cyl would add 20hp on the V6 that is already 200hp. don't get me wrong I believe the aveo have potential and can be a darn good looking car that may have some punch but I don't have the time right now but when I'll make my week-end car I would target something like 500hp and up, I truly doubt an aveo could go that far

not looking for a weekend car....i am really just looking for a car to replace my auto aveo...manual swap would be to much of a pain and I want to modify an aveo without having to take my only ride off of the road...i am not looking for anything with rediculous power just somewhere in the 250-300 hp range....if i wanted to have something with high horsepower i could just use my dads jimmy with the supercharged 350 once it gets back together...plus I only like to drive small hatches now i cant stand drive normal size cars because it feels like driving a boat....i am not shooting for weekend car but rather a token of what you can do to an aveo and maybe it can catch the eye of the aftermarket finally possibly even GM. Id love to get it all down for next years GM small car bash but first i need to convince my dad first with a plan.

i say rebuild the motor and and do 20 psi turbo get u up to 250 or so and stick with that iam in the same cituation i use my car for daily use so i just want to be able to get it bit faster yet not lose it for a daily driver
