My question is will the front brakes (caliper and rotor) off a base Cobalt, 4-lug hub fit an Aveo, and are they larger in diamater? I'm asking b/c I am looking for a inexpensive alternative to have larger brakes on my Aveo which has 17" wheels.

what is the reason? for looks because they dont fill it up or because u think the 17's are too heavy? because you dont need to get bigger ones for stopping just because u have 17's....i have heavy a$$ 17's and the stocks work great still, but if u r worried get slotted rotors and better pads

I was wondering basically for looks. The stock ones just look very small and I like the look of a larger rotor. So are you saying that the Cobalt ones aren't any bigger?

I still have the stock pads and rotors and the car is nearing 70 000 km's with no problems and still plenty of wear left on them, I also have 17" wheels that are pretty heavy.
I have looked at other cars and the front brakes on the Aveo are surprisingly big and they have plenty of stopping power, its not hard to lock both front wheels on dry pavement, even with 17" wheels and performance tires. Think twice before spending that much for cobalt brakes.
If you want to upgrade, do as Sam said, slotted rotors and performance pads.

If they are the same or close to the same, I won't worry about it. Like I said, the current set-up stops fine, but I was just looking for a cheaper way to get a larger rotor to fill in the space other that performance rotors.

Seeing as the Cobalt is an actual chevy and the Aveo is a rebadged Daewoo, I doubt it...but who knows...
