Where is the best location to place jack stands, (front and rear), while working under my '04 hatchback? The owner's manual shows jack placement but doesn't mention jack stands that I can find.
Thanks for your response!! Dave

what are you working with? are you using the jack in the rear? ....they show you were to jack it up for a flat but i looked at where they are and it doesnt look like something i would want a jack on while i work underneath......when i work on mine i put them on something else but i dont wat its called (i think it might be the sub frame up front

I want to do my own oil changes and just occasionally be able to clean things up and check things out. There are no specific changes I have in mind now.
I'm a little paranoid about crawling under a car. I had a close friend in high school that was killed when the car he was working on fell off of the jack he'd raised it on. I'm in my late fifties now but still haven't forgotten that.
Thanks for your response.

yes, NEVER EVER EVER go under a car at all when it is just supported with a jack.. that happens all the time. Always use jack stands WITH the jack, and put the tire under the car if you have it off.. Better wreck the tire than your leg.. I haven't jacked up my aveo yet to see where a good spot is to support it.. so if you do figure it out, post it here J

Couldn't you just use the sidewalk to crawl under the car. It seems the best or those drive up stands. Heck when I lived in Mexico the guy used to make me drive up a 4x4 piece of wood and then he'd crawl under the car. I don't think the car has to be too high up to get under it. Depends on how big a pot belly you got. HA, HA.

Besides, there is no electricity there for lights and tools. At 57 I'm certainly not as thin or flexible as I once was. But I'm 5'10" and weigh 176 fully dressed. Not bad for an old devil. AveoSam, I'll look forward t your pictures. Thanks much!

The other thing that I think is a little more stable are the automobile ramps. Those kind you drive up. I saw them at a store here in Canada for $29.

I would like to put my lowering spring in, but am unsure where to put jack stands and how to get both front whhels off of the ground at the same time. This info would also be handy for rotating tires. Thanks.

My car is so low i can't get the jack under the car without driving the front wheels on something to make it higher, usually 2 peices of wood 2x4, even then its tight lol.
I use this method when i rotate my front wheels, i jack it up right behind the front wheel (same place they use at the dealership to jack it) then jack it up until both wheels are off the ground, mind you have to jack it pretty high to acheive this but it works.

I got my h&rs on and i can get the jack under it fine That is true, i could get it under even with my lowerings springs but remember that i cut 2 coils off each of them now, car is just over 1 inch lower then it used to be with the lowerings springs, jack wont go under without driving the front wheels on somewhing, even then its a tight fit ;D
