Good day
I just figured out how to get the door panels off of my new Aveo. It's a 2006, from Ukraine, but it's the same body on the US 2007 Aveo. I did the deck speakers already, (4 door sedan), and I'm embarking on the front.
Tomorrow, I'll post some pics of the process. For the most part, getting the door panel off is fairly straight forward. The one nasty part is the cover behind the inside door release. I didn't find it intuitive at all so I figured I'd share my efforts with others to prevent future unnecessary bending/scratching/breaking of delicate, (cheap), plastic bits.
The deck speaker part was fairly easy....just a few plastic pins/clips and the deck pulls off.....with some careful bending.
The fronts are 4", (I believe....I haven't measured yet), units, in their own little standoff cradle. The rears are 17mm, (I think that's the same as standard 6.5") I used Pioneer TS-A1711 speakers for the deck....cheap, but 1000 times better than the stock units. they fit right into the stock holes. Tonight, I'll go test out some units for the front. I'll stick with decent 4"ers, if I can find some here.
Aveos in Ukraine don't come with stereos installed. I put in a Sony CDX-GT200s. I had the dealer put that in along with a Mongoose 2 Way Alarm, (Russian brand). So far, I like the cd unit. Sounds great with the new speakers. It has a 3 band eq, aux in, 50x4w, mp3/wmf/and that sony format.
I took the panels off the dash to access the cd bin and it would have been a pretty easy job for an average diy person. I was just lazy. Besides, they only charged $20 for the install.
I'll update when I get my front speakers and/or I actually get off my butt to put them in.
