Hi all..I am from Puerto Rico and have two Aveos a 05 SVM white sedan (wife) and about one month ago bought a 06 LS hatch (bright blue) for me. Nice cars both specially the 06 with the revised suspension (my body knows since I travel about 1000 miles a week with it . Also visit the forum every day and enjoy it a lot. Question is, I have verified both 05 and 06 owner manuals and there is no information on them regarding when to service the auto tranny (filter, tranny oil change, etc). I always service the auto trannys in my previous cars and if cared they last a lot. There must be some owners here with automatics that could benefit from the info. Any information or suggestions?

Don't touch it unless you're having a problem.

Every 60k and yes you want to change it every 60k, Tranny fluid breaks down just like any other fluid. In past cars I've done this. Never a problem. And always take it somewhere where they flush the whole system, not just the drop pan and drain. Never gets it all

Exodus may have a point since many "shade and tree" mechs of yore never get use to changed the oil to 60's, 70's and 80's transmissions however those transmissions were very rugged and worked even with mineral oil hehe!. Still many people don't want to mess with their tranny until repair time and it's understandable but repair cost of a modern tranny is tenfold higher than for a vintage one. If the old oil is changed, many times those trannys start acting weird if that oil was changed and also developed leaks sometimes. Our auto tranny is an Aisin (japanese) unit not GM right? At least my old Lanos tranny was also an Aisin. Actually there is a filter also to change right? I think I do it at 60K miles...however the timing belt change will be at about 50K. I suffer from TB breakage in my old Lanos at 54K miles (same engine) and don't wanna know the repair cost (bent valves, etc.).

I still stand by "don't touch it unless you're having a problem" mentality with auto tranny fluid.
I had a mk2 jetta with over 200k miles on the original tranny and original fluid. No problems. My mom currently has a beretta with over 150k miles... no problems on original tranny and fluid. My neon made it to 80k miles before being wrecked... original tranny and fluid (no tranny problems)
The only time I ever had to change ATF was due to the stupidity of my g/f's father. He dumped an extra quart of ATF into it when it was already full. Needless the say the perfectly red fluid (this was at 70k miles) started bubbling. Pulled the pan and changed the filter. No indication of accelerated wear even with the extra fluid.
Don't touch it unless you have to.

Did anybody knows if other GM cars (or any manufacturer by the way) use our car's AT transmissions? (just a little curiosity!)
