Plus you want the front end to collapse, it absorbs the impact, if not your ass is going flying or getting rattled around abit

top gear tested a minivan against a range rover, the range "looked" better, but the drivers area was collapsed which would have tore up the driver. The minivan on the otherhand even though smaller dissipated the impact MUCH better and the driver would have walked away... so would the passengers.
That car demoed in the video would not pass US crash standards. Basically as long as you are in a car built after 2000 you are pretty safe.

i don't know about you guys, but i rather have more g-forces on my body (decceleration) in a big sedan, then an engine on my lap in the aveo. and all new cars, big or small obsorb impact very well, but biger. and heavier vehicles are safer in my opinion becouse they have enough body strangth to keep the engine in the engine compartment in a head on at 35mph. i understand that drivers of big cars make more dengerous for drivers of small cars, but in our word we have to take care of our self, and our own, and i would feel alot safer with my whole family in 5000lb sedan/SUV going head on in to a 2500lb aveo, then in a aveo vs. aveo crash.
