i'm just curious why no one has tried making their own turbo kit, i was looking in my engine bay yesterday and i think with an adapter plate a turbo could be bolted up to the stock exhaust manifold.
honda guys have been doing it for a long time, and it would be cheap. i still have my aveo(even tho i'll probably be getting a new car soon) but its driving me nuts that my car is stock. i think with and adapter plate i could bolt up a used t25 turbo off a second gen eclipse, which would give great response on our car(d16 honda guys say it feels like a powerful N/A motor) of course you'd need custom piping, intercooler, bigger injectors and engine management, but i think you could have yourself a solid streetable turbo kit for under 2 grand easy. honda guys do it all the time, why shouldnt we?
i'm sure it would only take 5, maybe 7 psi max with stock internals, but it would be a huge difference.
you know i keep reading that our engine cant handle boost and the tranny will break at 200hp, but i havent seen anyone prove it.
i would be willing to bet there isnt a person on this board with more then 130hp, and thats being optimistic
you know when people started to modify hondas all the v8 guys said it was pointless, that it was a waste of money(alot still do) but people proved them wrong.
we cant just sit around putting fart cans and honda short ram intakes on our cars if we ever want the aveo to become a half respected car in the inport(or automotive community in general)
i already realized a long time ago that intakes, exhausts just dont cut it if you really want your aveo to be anything more than slow. i'm not trying to rain on anyones parade here, but you guys know its the truth.
95% of the car people i know think its pointless to modify an aveo, they all say "get a dsm or a honda, and leave the aveo to do what it was meant to do, get you from point a to point b" the only way we will ever get more aftermarket support is by building up our cars and showing up at shows and races, and proving these cars are worth building.
sorry if i am rambling, but sometimes i get desperate seeing that performance wise, our cars are stangnent, we still dont have a true, cold air kit out there yet much less a header that we can buy without going thru the hassle of ordering from out of the country, then hopeing it will fit
i think i am gonna start picking up the parts i need to make my own turbo kit, and once i start putting it together i'll post pctures along the way of my progress. and if i blow the tranny at 200hp then at least we'll really know how much power in can handle. you gotta start somewhere right?
