Hi, I just joined the forum and this is my first post.
Im Nate and currently daily drive a 2004 Aveo hatchback.
I bought the car in September 2006 used with 40,000 miles on it. Was a 1 owner car all original. 3+ years later I am at 107k on it and climbing. I paid 7,500 Cash for mine and so far it has been a GREAT investment. Its the base 5 speed hatch with only options being A/C and a CD/MP3 player which was replaced shortly after.
I'm a mechanic and beat the hell out of this car. I drive this car hard...Ive been from Williamsburg, VA. to San Bernadino, CA twice round trip in the summer. Ive cruised the I40 through New Mexico at 110MPH in excess of 30minutes on the desert.
This car has never had a major issue. At 50k I changed the timing belt and water pump. At ths time I also converted from the orange juicety Dex Cool to the conventional green antifreeze, Installed new plugs and wires, ditched the Air box/resonator and found that a used 1996 dodge avenger 2.5V6 aftermarket cold air intake worked perfect with no mods at all needed once you stripped out the box/res and the plumbing.
At 90k my plastic stock thermostat housing broke and I changed it to a metal housing and new thermostat from GM.
At 100k I replaced the timing belt and water pump again and installed my first new set of brake pads and rotors. The drums are still above minimun for the VA. state inspection due to being cleaned and adjusted every 15k.
Im at 107k with the original clutch and suspension conponents. The clutch is slowly starting to show signs of wear and will be replaced soon. When I first bought the car I ocasionally had the groaning suspension problem, but after lubing some conp[onents and replacing a few bushings Ive still never had the issue again.
Good peppy (not fast but fun enough for what it is stock) car for the money, especially if you can preform your own maintenance.
