I had neons, but swaped them out for some leds. I have the power coming from the door switch in the door jam, and mounted under the dash. So they come on when I open the door, turn off when I shut the door.

I'm thinking of adding some interior LED accents under the dash but I'm having trouble thinking of where to cut in for power. I was thinking of just tying into the interior dome light wires, but I want to add a switch so i can turn it on and off without having to open the door.
I don't really want to cut into anything after the fuse box, won't that cause more blown fuses due to increased amp draw?
Am I just being paranoid or is there a better way?

I ran a 8ga amp power wire into my dash from the battery to connect all my 12V accessory, just be sure to turn them off or you will drain your battery or you can add a relay from the ignition switch to have it powered only when the car runs

I was thinking of doing something like that, but how do you go from a 8ga wire to something like 12-16ga (not sure exactly) that pre-wired neons come with? I have a bunch of those tap-in connectors but I haven't seen anything to reduce the size of the wire. Any suggestions?
I don't really want to run 8ga to the switch and 12ga off the other side, it defeats the purpose of using 8ga at all.

Bump!
Anyone have any ideas? I don't know if a 12ga will power 2 12" LED strips and 2 smaller ones, could it?
I wanna hook it all up to a master switch in case the dang cops give me a hassle. Should I run something thicker from the battery, like an 8ga Frank suggested? How would I wire in the 12ga that comes on LED strips?

I used some ring terminals with a bolt to screw them together and I use a 4gauge rubber to cover it to avoid short cuts

This is a bad shot since it was done in the day, but you can see the neons lightup the floor under the dash. I wired into the headlights so when I turn on the parking lights, my feet lights come on. It looks better at night obviously. I put some Varad 10" tubes on the Mazda and they have a perfect light spray I would highly recommend them over the cheap ebay crap I got. Make sure to mount them clean so you don't even know they are there until night. www.vincentfurniture.com/subachad/Aveo/mods/interior.htmChad
